  • NATIONAL SOCIAL SECURITY FUND (NSSF) COLLABORATES WITH RELAVENT INSTITUTIONS TO DISSEMINATE ROAD TRAFFIC LAW FOR ROAD TRAFFIC SAFETY OF WORKERS

    Phnom Penh—H.E. Ouk Samvithyea, Delegate of the Royal Government in charge as Director of the National Social Security Fund of the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training and President of Road Traffic Safety Team for Worker Prevention (RTSTWP), presided over the meeting on Review of Draft Report on Semester I Achievements in 2019 and Action Plans of the Road Traffic Safety Team for Worker Prevention of NSSF, which was held in the meeting room of NSSF.

    He said that although the traffic accident has risen gradually and is the concern of the Royal Government, through the issuance of strategic and action plans, we strongly hope that they will be able to better the road traffic safety for worker’s commute. Furthermore, these strategic and action plans are a part for the socio-economic development and the contribution to the poverty reduction of workers in line with the policy of the Royal Government through the collaboration of Road Traffic Safety Team for Worker Prevention with ministries, institutions, organizations, and authorities involved as well as national and international organizations that play vital roles in promoting the road traffic safety of workers.

    From 01 January to 30 May 2019, the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) disseminated the Road Traffic Law to 7,800 workers equal to 132 times and 8,438 worker-transporting drivers equal to 150 times.

    However, in the semester I in 2019, there are 766 times of traffic accident—20 times of car (7 times of worker-transporting truck in garment and footwear sector), 705 times of motorcycle, 6 times of trishaw:, 6 times of bicycle, and 29 times of on-foot:. The total numbers of victims are 159 serious injuries and 761 mild injuries.

    Among 766 times of traffic accident, there are 501 victims who are working in garment and footwear sector equal to 354 times (7 deaths, 53 serious injuries, and 441 mild injuries), 117 victims who are employed in micro-finance and bank sector equal to 108 times (01 death, 20 serious injuries, and 96 mild injuries), and 326 victims who are working in other sector equal to 304 times (16 deaths, 86 serious injuries, and 224 mild injuries)

    He continued that in order to participate in the implementation of action plans “Road Traffic Safety of Workers” with high effectiveness, the National Social Security Fund and ministries, institutions, organizations and authorities involved as well as national and international organizations as the collaborative partners have collaborated to disseminate the Road Traffic Law and travel safety in all forms in a bid to reduce the traffic accident inflicting on the body of workers at the lowest level.

    This meeting was held on 18 July 2019 and taken part by the members of Road Traffic Safety Team for Worker Prevention (RTSTWP) of NSSF.
