  • WORKERS’ TRAFFIC ACCIDENT DECREASE 46% IF COMPARED TO THE PERIOD OF 4 MONTHS OF 2017 IN LINE WITH THE EXTREME INCREASE OF DISSEMINATION ON TRAFFIC LAW

    Phnom Penh— H.E Chiev Bunrith, spokesperson of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) of Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, revealed that the workers’ traffic accident cases declined 46% in a period of 4 months starting from January to April if compared to the identical periods of 4 months in 2017.

    He added that in a period of 4 months in 2018 if compared with the identical period of 2017, there were 524 times of traffic accidents equal to the total number of 563 victims (decrease 443 times with 862 victims equal to 60%)—433 mild injuries (decrease 794 victims equal to 65%), 120 serious injuries (decrease 55 victims equal to 31%), and 10 deaths (decline 13 victims equal to 57%).

    The Road Traffic Safety Team for Worker Prevention (RTSTWP) pays its attention to disseminating and educating the traffic law to workers in the purpose of alerting them to be careful when commuting as well as worker-transporting drivers to drive with the high responsibility and in particular they have to adhere to 10 moralities for traffic safety as follows:

    1. Do not drive over the speed limit.
    2. Do not be drunk-driving.
    3. Do not drive under influence of drug abuse.
    4. Do not be drowsy-driving.
    5. Drive carefully and obey the traffic law.
    6. Always wear helmet while driving motorcycle.
    7. Always wear seatbelt while driving.
    8. Always observe the right-hand priority.
    9. Always inspect the vehicle.
    10. Always be precautious.

    According to the 2018 four-month report of RTSTWP, RTSTWP convened the dissemination meeting on the traffic law to workers amounted to 216 times with 46,665 participants and workers-transporting drivers amounted to 82 times with 17,767 participants.

    So far, the National Social Security Fund has collaborated closely with the National Road Safety Committee, Department of Traffic Police and Public Order of General Department of National Police of Ministry of Interior, Department of Land Transports, Department of Road Traffic Safety of General Department of Transport of Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Cambodian Red Cross, and other related ministries and institutions.
